Discuss The Emerald Forest

I remember _The Emerald Forest _as one of the few great films of the 1980s, but one that is seldom talked about these days. It has been many years since I saw it but certain scenes and images remain etched in my mind. Based on a true story, it has emotional power and visual beauty aplenty. Scanning through reviews, one common criticism of the film - including by those who like it a lot - seems to be that it is heavy-handed about its ecological message, and - being much younger and more impressionable when I last saw the movie - it is very possible that I was blind to this. I am almost afraid to watch this again and prove myself wrong, but intend to do so soon.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this film?

I can remember seeing it as a young adult and finding the imagery quite haunting. But beyond that, not a lot - it's been too many years and it wasn't a 24 carate classic.

Anyone planning a remake better hurry before the knuckle-dragger in charge of Brazil allows the rainforest to disappear even more quickly than David Copperfield could.

Mr. Murray, This is a bit off topic but could you leave the links to your 'Best Movie' links for the 30's 40' & 50's here? I tried going through my discussion section but it was taking forever. I figured you could find the links faster?

brat, I remembered where one of those decades lists was posted, so was able to find the other two by association. Here are the decades lists for the '30s, '40s, and '50s:

1930s

1940s

1950s

The '30s and '50s lists include the links to the earlier (Silent era) and later ('60s) decades lists.

PS: I've never seen The Emerald Forest. I simply happened to notice this thread and decided to give it a look. relaxed

Thanks gen. I wanted to leave them for HarrisonHanksHackman. I thought they might be interested?

Did you do a search? How did you find them so fast?

I remembered that I was who created the '40s thread, and that I added it to the '40s movie I knew everyone's seen, It's a Wonderful Life. relaxed

I wish my brain still worked that well. I suppose I would have eventually remembered something, but I am so impatient! 👵👵

I had no clue, whatsoever, where the '30s and '50s lists (or any other decades lists) were though. upside_down
