Sinatra's performance

This Oscar just had to be a gimme to boost Sinatra's career. His acting in this is pretty unremarkable. I can't help but giggle at the death scene because it's acted so cheesily. "Don't let Fatso getcha Pru!" . 
But still, I love this movie. Great cast and everyone else in it did a fantastic job. I love Lancaster in this.

True but some pop stars turn out to be decent actors. Sinatra himself's acting improved in subsequent films although not much. I actually dug Dean Martin's acting (to name a contemporary).
