Scarface bediscussiëren

A remake has been rumoured for years... apparently the Coen brothers are working on it now...

I'm excited, I think it'll be great to see another director's take on a similar Scarface story in a different setting... overdue

If the Coen brothers are making it, I won't be watching it and will predict it will suck. Also, no actor today is even one half as charismatic and powerful, good a lead actor as Pacino. Another pointless cash grab remake.

Agreed. The Pacino film was itself a remake. This suggests that Hollywood is afraid of new ideas in a big way. Also, they're probably gonna make Mexican Americans look bad, in a generalizing sorta way.

I think the Coen Brothers are the only modern director that could pull it off, they manage to find real looking actors not some models, and they keep things gritty ie: Blood Simple, NCFOM

No, they're overrated. But this isn't their material. And model looks has nothing to do with talent that could pull it off. Actors like Pacino today are extinct, and anything less charismatic than him would be pointless. He's the reason it's so popular.

Not sure what director could pull it off, probably Oliver Stone, who worked on the first one. Michael Mann could. Some directors who worked on Breaking Bad, maybe Rian Johnson. But they should just leave it alone. Come up with new material and quit it with the cash grabs.

Michael Mann would be really interesting... I think he could deal with both the socio-political and economic themes as well as making an exciting crime movie... I think you need a director with a strong ability for visual storytelling and visual style, or someone who partnered with a solid cinematographer

Scarface looks so good primarily because of DePalma's decisions... the wide angle compositions, the camera movements, the difference between the flashier and quieter scenes... so good

I agree with you on Pacino... was key to Scarface. Come to think of it, I think Scarface is so good because it is a perfect mix of Pacino, DePalma and Oliver Stone... dangerous mix!

The actor will be a challenge. Apparently Deigo Luna is going to be the lead... This guy: https://www.themoviedb.org/person/8688-diego-luna Not exactly an inspiring choice, I would have tried to get Michael Pena https://www.themoviedb.org/person/454-michael-pe-a I think he could be interesting.

Stone hasn't done anything good since platoon, I mean Savages? Come on haha, Mann is great except his endings usual lack something ie Thief.

Looks like David Ayer might end up directing it... He's usually very good at directing crime movies (end of watch, harsh times)... i think he wrote training day as well.. interesting choice

I hope they bring on Roman Vasyanov, the cinematographer he used on Fury and they shoot it on film... could actually be good

I'm still unsure about diego luna though...

The film itself is actually a remake of the 1932 film. Definitely not, this film is already great.

I’m not excited about a remake of the 1983 classics if its too similar, if its own thing I wouldn’t mind it but from what I’ve read its not taking too many risks and just banking on the name of Scarface to draw in crowds.

Which I think will backfire, as cinema-goers will only be let down to learn that its not about the rise and fall of Tony Montana.
