어느 날 밤 폭풍으로 인해 글렌의 집 뒷마당의 고목나무가 쓰러지고, 글렌과 그의 친구 테리는 나무가 뽑힌 구덩이 한 켠의 커다란 구멍을 보고 관심을 갖는다. 그러나 글렌과 테리 그리고 글렌의 누나 앨은 대수롭지 않게 넘겨 버린다. 그러던 어느 날 구멍 속에서 생물체들이 올라오는 것을 보게 된 이들은 구멍과 생물체들의 출현이 악마의 공격을 예고하는 것임을 전혀 알지 못한다. 그들의 부모는 아이들을 두고 여행을 떠나게 되고, 이틈을 타 공격을 시작하는 악의 세력과 글렌, 테리 그리고 앨의 전쟁이 시작된다.

When she returns to the hotel with her husband the following night, the house detective accuses her of prostitution and throws them out. Now Claire must explain everything to her unsympathetic husband.
