In season one we see Elizabeth Thatcher, a cultured young teacher in 1910, leave her comfortable world in the city and accept a teaching position in a frontier town.

Season 2 of When Calls the Heart premiered on April 25, 2015.

In season 2, Abigail Stanton together with the other widows (whose husbands were killed in a mining explosion) gear up for the trial against the Pacific Northwest Mining Company. Meanwhile, Elizabeth and Constable Jack Thornton travel to Hamilton (Elizabeth's hometown) to visit her ailing mother. Elizabeth settles into her old life as Jack adjusts to the extravagance of the big city.

Season 3 of When Calls the Heart premiered on December 26, 2015.

Elizabeth and Jack's romance in Hope Valley continues to develop as we follow the adventures of other townspeople. In particular, two newcomers arrive, changing the lives of both Frank and Abigail and challenging their relationship. Lee and Rosemary's bond deepens as they reconcile their strong personalities. And Bill Avery's future remains uncertain. All things build toward a moment of truth for Jack and Elizabeth.

Season 4 of When Calls the Heart premiered on February 19, 2017.

In season five, Abigail is faced with a new crisis when financial troubles for the town loom. Elizabeth gets an unexpected visit. Ever the dedicated wife to Lee, Rosemary keeps busy at Dottie’s dress shop as she works to make Hope Valley more fashionable. As Elizabeth awaits news of Jack, who has returned to the Northern Territories, she focuses on teaching her students and dreams of the day when Jack comes safely home and they can plan their wedding. Sheriff Bill Avery keeps Hope Valley safe, as well as maintaining a close eye on Gowen, who continues to adjust to his new life as a laborer at Lee’s mill. Doctor Carson Shephard’s skills are put to the test when an unknown sickness sweeps through town, he opens his heart to love again, and takes a risk that could save or take a life of someone he cares for.

Hope Valley is in a state of growth with new challenges that impact the town. The town is buzzing about the Mayoral race. Elizabeth and Lucas focus on their new relationship. Nathan is focused on his Mountie career. There’s a new pharmacist in town. Rosemary and Lee continue to run the town newspaper.
