Season 1 of Dancing on Ice premiered on January 14, 2006.

The first series of Dancing on Ice began on ITV on 14 January 2006, it was presented by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, and judged by 'The Ice Panel', consisting of Nicky Slater, Karen Kresge, Jason Gardiner, Karen Barber, and Robin Cousins. Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean coached and trained the contestants.

Season 3

Season 3 of Dancing on Ice premiered on January 13, 2008.

The third series of Dancing on Ice began on 13 January 2008 and ended on 16 March 2008. The show moved to Sunday nights rather than Saturdays with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby returning to present. West End star Ruthie Henshall joined the ice panel for this series. The commissioning of the series was first confirmed by Phillip Schofield at the BAFTA awards.

Season 4 of Dancing on Ice premiered on January 11, 2009.

The fourth series of Dancing on Ice began on ITV on Sunday 11 January 2009. Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby returned as main presenters, while judges Karen Barber, Nicky Slater, Jason Gardiner Ruthie Henshall, and Robin Cousins returned as well.

The final was on Sunday 22 March 2009 and was won by Ray Quinn.

Season 5

Season 5 of Dancing on Ice premiered on January 8, 2010.

The fifth series of Dancing On Ice began airing on ITV on 8 January 2010 with a preview show, then started officially on 10 January, and concluded with the final on 28 March 2010. The show was presented by returning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. A new Dancing on Ice companion show called Dancing on Ice: Friday was hosted by Ben Shephard and last year's contestant Coleen Nolan.

Four of last year's judges returned – Karen Barber, Nicky Slater, Jason Gardiner, and Robin Cousins. West End star Ruthie Henshall left the show after only two series, and was replaced by Spice Girls singer Emma Bunton.

The series was finally won by Hayley Tamaddon and Daniel Whiston, beating Gary Lucy into second place and Kieron Richardson into third place.

Season 6

Season 6 of Dancing on Ice premiered on January 9, 2011.

The sixth series of Dancing on Ice started on 9 January 2011 and ended on 27 March 2011 on ITV. Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby return as hosts whilst Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean return to mentor the celebrities. This series saw a huge revamp of the show which included the show moving from Elstree to Shepperton Studios, acquiring a new look set, and was broadcast in high definition for the first time on ITV1 HD, STV HD and UTV HD.

Nicky Slater did not be return to the show, however, the other judges from previous years returned, though Karen Barber served as Head Coach instead of a judge. This series the judges' scores were out of 10.0 instead of 6.0 giving an overall total out of 30.0.

The line-up was revealed on 18 December 2010 and consists of sixteen celebrities. In each of the first two shows, only eight couples skated, with two of them being eliminated. These first two shows were billed as a qualifying stage, with twelve of the couples going through to the main competition, which started on 23 January.

In another twist to 30 January show the two celebrities with the lowest combined total of judges' scores and public votes competed in the skate-off as usual, but it was not the judges that decided who stayed but their fellow celebrities who had to decide and gave their reason live on air.

Season 7 of Dancing on Ice premiered on January 8, 2012.

Dancing on Ice returned for a seventh series on 8 January 2012 on ITV. Phillip Schofield returned as host, with new co-presenter Christine Bleakley. Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean returned to mentor the celebrities, with Karen Barber returning as Head Coach. This series also saw a new ice panel, made up of Head Judge Robin Cousins and two new judges Louie Spence and Olympic figure skating champion Katarina Witt. The show moved back to its original location of Elstree Studios, which was used during the show's first five series, but still used the same layout as introduced in last series.

On 24 January 2012, it was revealed that the 12 remaining couples would be going head-to-head in individual skating battles, where each couple were paired up and take to the ice at the same time performing their own routine to the same song. The ice panel then decided out of the pairs which couple they thought skated best, automatically guaranteeing them a place in the following weeks show. At the end of the battles the six that were not chosen faced the public vote, where one left the competition.

Matthew and Nina emerged victorious at the end of the series on 25 March 2012, with Jorgie and Matt finishing as runners up and Chico and Jodeyne coming in third place.

Season 8

Dancing on Ice returned for an eighth series on 6 January 2013 and ended on 10 March 2013. Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley returned as hosts, with Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean as mentors to the celebrities. Louie Spence and Katarina Witt left their roles as judges and were replaced by Jason Gardiner, Ashley Roberts, and Karen Barber. Robin Cousins returned as head judge. It was revealed that at the end of the 13 January show that the duel would return, this saw two couples go head-to-head on the ice at the same time performing different routines to the same song, the judges then decided which one will be immune from the public vote.
