Discuss Star Trek

I thought it would be a fun idea to list moments that for some reason came over untentionally funny. (Objects and costumes can be included.)

What ever it is that makes you laugh , the poster must send "proof ", a photo or a You Tube link.

Shatner's take on this scene when his boby is taken over by an alien is one of my top "TIRAMISU' " moments grinning

But then again if you go out for fast food(at least where I live) we usually have an appetite for feel good food which is usually not a salad but often something fatty, with usually too much salt and sugar (which are cheap and readily available flavour enhancers)but certainly not something to be consumed on a daily basis.

Yes, and no matter how healthy the separate ingredients are, if you get a whole day's worth of calories in a single meal, that's something to watch.

Does anyone know whether STD will become available on DVD and BRD? And has there been any word about the Anthology series by Nicholas Meyer?

At the moment CBS is pushing their "All Access" streaming service. So, they might wait until they're satisfied with its success. Any shows sold too soon on a physical medium would undercut the effort already put into promoting the service.
If they're confident enough, there will be a release before the start of the second season.

There are rumours about Meyer planning to produce an anthology series, starting with Khan.
But those are only rumours.

If "Star Trek: Discovery" becomes a success, CBS might be tempted to try for a spinoff or miniseries. I just hope there aren't too many changes from the original as is already happening. Otherwise STOS as we know it might become the odd one out, swamped with the new show(s), which will then become the accepted Star Trek reality for most (old and new) fans.

Those poor sots. Like all the young whipper-snappers who are surprised to learn that Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings.

Thanks for the info Wonder2wonder.And Paul McCartney died in 1966 in a car crash.I called the illusive phone number on the Magical Mystery Tour Album cover and was connected to an international number where I could hear beach sounds and Indian music playing in the background. The call was answered by a man with a thick Liverpool accent(come to think of it he sounded an awful lot like John Lennon) while I heard a voice sounding remarkable like Jim Morrison shouting "Hey George cut the fiddling on that sitar " to which the "George character" bit back "that he and Elvis should cut down on the booze and meat and go vegan and do a little exercise because they were growing fat" . I asked the voice answering whether I could speak to Paul McCartney but the voice replied that he was unavailable at the moment because he was water skiing with a girl called Marilyn . stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye

to Nexus. I copied and pasted the last post we had on Tarantino just to refresh our minds and then I added my thoughts.

@sunshine62 said :"Just to familiarise with the director today I watched some interviews he made .. he rubs off somewhat mental stating that the violence and blood in his films has no possible negative effect on the public..he invites mothers ,with their 12 year old kids ,to see Kill Bill.šŸ˜³ He said that HE grew up fine watching violent films šŸ˜† and that Uma's character (a woman on a revenge rampage) can inspire girls šŸ˜³..he mentioned woman empowerment."

Nexus: I agree with him I got to watch movies like Alien,The Thing, a lot of old Hammer and Corman horror and violent movies like the Godfather,Taxi Driver,French Connection,American Werewolf In London, in my very early teens (10-12 years) and I don't feel the urge to be violent so I agree with Tarantino on that I think that Tarantino makes a clear distinction between violence with consequence and the non-consequential violence in most big blockbuster movies where explicit violence is shown but only to serve as backdrop for funny lines and up tempo pop music or classic rock anthems. At least the violence in his movie is show as a result of tension and conflict rather than to serve as amusement(much like in old days of bloody gladiator games in the Roman Colosseum )like in major blockbuster movies.

Being violent is not the only negative effect that can derive from watching violent /gory films.

Kids can become moody, bullies and reluctant to listen to their parents or teachers. Others can develop sleeping disorders or other health issues.

During adolescence the brain is changing/developing , in particular the brain that controls emotions, emotional behavior and response to external events.

Teens exposed to violent /gore on screen can in time become DESENITISE to violence and more accepting of the violence and in extreme case prone to acting violent.

Tarantino quotesā€ Violence in movies is coolā€ and ā€œViolence is entertainingā€

I personally think that there is something horribly wrong in statements like these .

Quentin justifies his work saying that movie violence is not real violence ā€¦itā€™s fake so there is nothing wrong in finding his films , full of violence and gore, a means of entertainment.

The violence and gore maybe fake but in real life people do get raped, tortured , mutilated ,murdered and people do suffer and experience pain due to these violent actions/crimes.

Naturally no one finds these things amusing in real life yet Quentin believes that all these horrible crimes and the pain and suffering that follow , if done and experienced by invented characters in a movie itā€™s okay.

Well I disagree..I find it morally wrong to find violence and human suffering not a big deal and find it entertaining to watch , even if itā€™s only a simulation of the real thing.

Normally ,Humans tend to empathazise with other people's pain and sufferings ..Tarantino instead wants to make it look cool and entertaining .

Itā€™s obvious that Quentino has never personally experienced violence and the pain and suffering that it producesā€¦if he had he wouldnā€™t find fake violence entertaining .

Being violent is part of our nature , itā€™s not a part to be proud of ..Quentino ,with mastery , knows how to feed on our darkside and use it to his advantage ā€¦.thatā€™s why he has quite a fan base .

Quentin is a very skilled director but itā€™s time he stepped out of his ā€œmake believe world ā€œand used his talent to make films with soul and meaning and not that empty stuff he does.

Ask youself if someone you loved was raped or killed violently would you still think Quentin was right in saying ā€¦violonce in films is cool and entertaining ?
