原本是上班族的青岛俊作突然对一成不变的上班族生活感到厌倦，而参加了国家公务员考试，成为了一名警察。幻想着像影视剧中威风工作的青岛，却在第一天上班就碰了壁：出现紧急杀人事件，女同事小堇却忙着审问小偷；想要开警车，却发现要课长、局长层层批示才能给车钥匙；来到案发现场，却因为案发现场在辖区管辖范围街对面，而无法插手。青岛俊作对这样的工作感到失望，还好有老警察和久先生鼓励青岛。青岛决定从小案件开始做起，不想凭借他出色的洞察力，阴差阳错地破获了一个又一个惊天大案。

《跳躍大搜查線》是富士電視台於1997年製作播映的電視劇，首播時收視率大約在18%左右。其實此劇一開始收視率並不出色，但隨着口碑效應的蔓延，到了後期人氣漸漸越來越旺；此後隨着重播，積聚的迴響更是越來越大。

Aoshima is a rookie detective who has come to take a post at the Wangan Police Station in Odaiba. But what awaited this ex-salesman looking for stimulation was petty work and a rigid hierarchical control. Big cases are being handled at the main headquarters and the local police station is treated as if it were a nuisance. He is disillusioned by the fact that policemen are not superheroes and belong to a top-down organization. Living by his motto, “Cases don’t happen in the conference room, but at the scene,” Aoshima steadily influences his colleagues through his cheerfulness and strength.

Aoshima est un détective qui débute au poste de police de Wangan à Odaiba plein de rêves. Mais la réalité n'est pas ce qu'attendait cet ancien vendeur. Dans cette structure hiérarchique, les grosses affaires sont traitées au siège principal et le poste de police local est considéré comme une nuisance. Désabusé, il décide de rester fidèle à sa devise "Les affaires ne se traitent pas dans la salle de conférence, mais sur le terrain".
