Jim Parsons is an American television and film actor, best known for playing Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory.

James Joseph „Jim“ Parsons (* 24. März 1973 in Houston, Texas) ist ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler. Er wurde durch seine Rolle als Dr. Dr. Sheldon Lee Cooper in der US-amerikanischen Sitcom The Big Bang Theory international bekannt, für die er mit vier Emmys und einem Golden Globe ausgezeichnet wurde.

Seine erste Fernsehrolle erhielt er 2003 in der Serie Ed – Der Bowling-Anwalt; es folgten kleinere Auftritte in Fernseh- und Kinofilmen. In der Fernsehreihe Für alle Fälle Amy trat er 2004 und 2005 in sieben Folgen auf. Von 2007 bis 2019 spielte er den theoretischen Physiker Dr. Dr. Sheldon Lee Cooper in der von CBS produzierten Sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Nato e cresciuto a Houston, Texas, figlio di Milton Joseph "Mickey/Jack" Parsons, deceduto in un incidente d'auto nel 2001, e dell'insegnante Judy Ann McKnight. Ha una sorella, Julie, che fa l'insegnante e che l'ha reso zio. Decide fin da piccolo di diventare attore. Studia all'Università di Houston (laurea triennale), dove diviene un membro della confraternita Pi Kappa Alpha. Ha poi conseguito la laurea specialistica (Master Degree) presso l'Università di San Diego, dove si esibiva all'Old School Theatre. Si trasferisce a New York per continuare la sua carriera di attore. Alcuni dei ruoli più importanti da lui interpretati includono l'apparizione come personaggio regolare nella serie Giudice Amy e un'apparizione speciale nella serie Ed.
