Discuss John Barrymore

John Barrymore (born John Sidney Blyth) is my longtime fave of the various Barrymores - though I've always liked them all.

Besides his great stage and screen acting, John's well known for his overall family group - as well as for his handsome profile. (Frequently he was photographed and filmed in profile.) Regrettably, this highly talented artist is also well known for the severe chronic alcoholism that eventually killed him.

John was brother of Lionel and Ethel, husband of (among others) Dolores Costello (of the Costello acting family), father of (to name his two actor children) Diana and John Jr., and grandfather of current star Drew (daughter of John Jr., who was John and Dolores' son). Pretty impressive family group - and that's not even taking various additional Blyth(e)/Barrymore and Drew family members into consideration.

A few of my favourite John Barrymore movies (each of these included in my personal collection) are 1924's Beau Brummel, 1934's Twentieth Century, and 1939's Midnight. Each mentioned film and Barrymore performance has aged wonderfully and continues to "wear" well.
