Izïa Higelin (born 24 September 1990), more commonly known by her stage name Izia, is a French rock singer, guitarist and actress. Her most recent album, Citadelle, was released in 2019.

Izïa was born in Paris on 24 September 1990 to Jacques Higelin, a famous French singer of Belgian and Alsatian descent, and Aziza Zakine, a dancer and chorist of Tunisian descent. She comes from a family of artists; beside her father and mother, her two half brothers are Arthur H and Kên Higelin. She was influenced by music from an early age when her father introduced her to jazz and British pop music. At the age of seven, she formed a duo with her father; she provided the vocals while he played piano.

When she was 13 Izïa started to take an interest in rock bands such as Nirvana and Led Zeppelin. At this time, she wrote her first song, titled "Hey Bitch", which later featured on her debut album.

A year later she met Caravan Palace bassist Antoine Toustou through her parents and the pair played their first live show in 2004. Six months later, her backing group was expanded to three people when Izïa and Toustou were joined by Sébastien Hoog and Vincent Polycarpe. She left school at the age of 15 in order to concentrate on a career in music.

In 2006, Izïa released her first extended play and the following year she opened for Iggy & the Stooges at the Printemps de Bourges music festival. She consequently embarked on a tour of France, which consisted of over thirty dates. On 8 June 2009, her eponymous debut studio album, Izia was released in France. In some reviews, the album garnered comparisons to Janis Joplin. The album performed reasonably well in the French albums chart, achieving a peak position of #31 and staying in the top 100 for 17 consecutive weeks.

Izïa has since released three more albums that reached the charts in France: So Much Trouble (2011), La Vague (2015), and Citadelle (2019). In 2021, Izïa contributed a cover of the Metallica song "My Friend of Misery" to the charity tribute album The Metallica Blacklist.

Izïa made her film debut in 2012, appearing in the film Bad Girl under her full name, Izia Higelin. She was nominated for several awards for her performance in the film, including the César Award for Most Promising Actress. Since then she has continued to act sporadically, appearing in the 2015 film Summertime and playing Camille Claudel in the 2017 film Rodin.

Izïa est présente sur diverses scènes depuis 2005. C'est en 2009 que sa carrière démarre vraiment, avec la sortie de l'album Izia.

Izïa Anna Rosine Higelin est la fille du musicien et chanteur français Jacques Higelin et de la danseuse et chanteuse tunisienne Aziza Zakine. Elle est la demi-sœur d'Arthur H et de Kên Higelin. Elle est scolarisée à Paris à l'École alsacienne au collège, entre 2004 et 2005.

Son prénom aurait dû être «M’Zia», qui signifie «ensoleillé» en géorgien, mais l'entourage des parents ayant indiqué que ce prénom serait difficile à porter, le «M» a été remplacé par un «I , donnant Izïa.

Son père lui a consacré plusieurs chansons: Ce qui est dit doit être fait et Ballade pour Izïa sur Illicite (1991), puis J't'aime telle sur Amor Doloroso en 2006. Loin d'être gênée par son nom de famille, elle revendique au contraire sa filiation à longueur d'interviews en y rendant des hommages appuyés à son père. Quant à ce dernier, il affirme n'avoir rien fait pour l'aider, si ce n'est de lui avoir conseillé un avocat pour défendre ses jeunes intérêts. Il est toutefois à noter que son tourneur est Daniel Colling, qui est, entre autres, directeur du Printemps de Bourges et producteur de Jacques Higelin. C'est Colling qui a offert à Izïa ses premières dates, avec comme premier concert important, un passage au Printemps de Bourges en 2006.

Alors qu'elle n'a que 7 ans, son père et elle s'amusent à improviser des chansons, lui au piano, elle vocalisant en faux italien. En 2002, il lui offre sa première expérience discographique en partageant un duo avec elle sur l'album collectif Boby Tutti-Frutti, hommage délicieux à Boby Lapointe sur lequel ils interprètent L'Hélicon.

À l'adolescence, elle se tourne vers le rock en découvrant Led Zeppelin, Genesis et Nirvana. Puis elle apprend la guitare et commence à écrire ses premières chansons dès l'âge de 13 ans. Elle écrit et chante en anglais en reprenant à son compte la formule de John Lennon selon laquelle le rock français serait comme du vin anglais.

À 14 ans, elle interprète l'une de ses premières compositions, Life is going down, au Cabaret sauvage et est immédiatement invitée à participer au Festival du vent de Calvi six mois plus tard. C'est alors qu'elle s'entoure d'un groupe au hasard des rencontres. C'est le début de la collaboration avec Sébastien Hoog, le guitariste qui reste en 2010 le seul rescapé des diverses formations. Plus qu'un simple sideman, Sébastien Hoog est un véritable complice qui cosigne les musiques et apporte un son de guitare très années 1970 au groupe. Izïa enchaîne les dates et monte sur scène au Printemps de Bourges de 2006. C'est pour elle le déclic, elle quitte l'école et se consacre à la musique. ...
