American film director and screenwriter best known for the films The Vicious Kind (2009), Celeste and Jesse Forever (2012), and The Age of Adaline (2015). Krieger was born and raised in Los Angeles. He became "hooked" on filmmaking at the age of 13 when his neighbor, film producer Steve Perry, brought him to the set of the 1996 film Executive Decision.

Krueger fonde une compagnie de production "Autumn Entertainment" en 2004. En 2009, il écrit et dirige The Vicious Kind qui est visionné la première fois au festival de Sundance en 2009. Il réalise le film Adaline en 2015 avec au casting Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman et Harrison Ford. Le 29 février 2016, il est annoncé qu'il assurera la réalisation du dernier opus de la série Divergente : Allegiant part 2, avec toujours au casting Shailene Woodley et Theo James.
