Isabel Karajan (born 25 June 1960 in Vienna) is an Austrian actress. She is a daughter of Herbert von Karajan and Eliette von Karajan.

After completing her Matura, Isabel Karajan studied acting in Vienna and Paris. She had her first acting engagements with the playhouses in Zurich and Stuttgart, the Thalia theatre Hamburg, the theatre Der Kreis in Vienna and the Théâtre National de la Colline. From 1995 to 1998 Isabel Karajan played the part of the Good Works in Jedermann at the Salzburg Festival. She also performed in Avignon and Adelaide, Australia, as well as at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Schauspielhaus Stuttgart, the Münchner Kammerspiele and at the Schaubühne in Berlin. In 2000, she appeared in Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher by Arthur Honegger at the Saito-Kinen Festival in Japan. It's the extraordinary projects that are close to Isabel Karajan's heart. She has been developing her own projects for solo theatrical performances, chamber music or large orchestra with directors such as Klaus Ortner, Jorge Lavelli, Julian Pölsler, Christina Pfrötschner and others for several years. At the Shostakovich Days in Gohrisch, the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Diaghilev Festival of Currentzis in Perm, the Soli Deo Gloria Festival in Goslar and the Kfar Blum Festival in Israel, she presented "Miss Death meets Mr. Shostakovich ", a scenic collage on fear with chamber music by Shostakovich and texts by his contemporaries. In 2015, under the direction of Julian Pölsler, "Die Feuerprobe" with poems by Christine Lavant and Op. 40 by Shostakovich. Furthermore, Isabel Karajan, in collaboration with the director Christina Pfrötschner, created a word music collage for the Midsummer Night's Dream.

In 2016, Isabel Karajan starred in Bernstein's "Candide" with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jeffrey Tate. This was followed in 2017 by Edgar A. Poe's "The Mask of the Red Death" at the Swiss Alp Classic Festival in Andermatt with Clemens Hellsberg and members of the Vienna Philharmonic. In the summer of 2018 she performed with the composer Beat Furrer at the Salzburg Festival with an interpretation of the "Wüstenbuch" fragment by Ingeborg Bachmann. As leading actress she was involved in the development and successful premiere of the opera "Stillhang" by Christian Spitzenstätter in December 2018 under the direction of Klaus Ortner. Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" in the version by F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy described her from the point of view of an orchestra violist together with the Staatskapelle Dresden and the conductor Vladimir Jurowski in three concert evenings in the Semper Oper Dresden in 2019. ...

Isabel Karajan (née le 25 juin 1960 à Vienne), est une actrice autrichienne, fille d'Herbert von Karajan et Eliette von Karajan. Elle est aussi la sœur aînée de la musicienne Arabel Karajan.

Avec le metteur en scène Klaus Ortner, Isabel Karajan développe ses propres concepts pour des représentations musique-théâtre avec musique de chambre ou grand orchestre.

Dans le cadre du Festival Chostakovitch à Gohrisch, au Festival de Pâques à Salzbourg et en Israël elle a joué Mademoiselle la Mort rencontre Monsieur Chostakovitch, un collage scénique sur la peur avec la musique de chambre de Chostakovitch et des textes de ses contemporains. Avec des membres de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Berlin et de l’Orchestre symphonique de Bamberg, elle a présenté L’histoire du soldat de Stravinsky et Eight songs for a Mad King de Peter Maxwell Davies.

Au Festival Saito-Kinen au Japon, elle a présenté Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher d'Arthur Honegger et Paul Claudel. En 2015, elle s’est produite dans L’épreuve du feu avec des poèmes de Christine Lavant et la sonate pour violoncelle op. 40 de Chostakovitch dans la mise en scène de Julian Pölsler. Ensuite, Isabel Karajan a lancé, avec la metteur en scène Christina Pfrötschner, une production texto-musicale selon Le Songe d'une nuit d'été de Shakespeare et Mendelssohn. En 2016, on a pu voir Isabel Karajan en Candide de Bernstein avec l’orchestre symphonique de Hambourg sous la direction de Jeffrey Tate.

Après sa formation à Paris chez Jean-Laurent Cochet, Isabel Karajan a d’abord été membre de l’ensemble du Théâtre Thalia à Hambourg sous la direction de Jürgen Flimm, ensuite Georges Tabori l’a fait venir à Vienne dans son théâtre légendaire Der Kreis (théâtre)|Der Kreis.

Grâce à sa langue maternelle, le français, Isabel Karajan a eu l’occasion de travailler dans les théâtres français et d’obtenir des engagements à Paris au Théâtre national de la Colline et au Théâtre de la Tempête. Elle a aussi joué à Avignon et à Adelaide en Australie, ainsi qu’au Théâtre Colon à Buenos Aires, à la Schaubühne à Berlin, au Festival de Salzbourg, aux Kammerspiele à Munich et à la Altes Schauspielhaus à Stuttgart.

Elle a travaillé avec des metteurs en scène comme Jürgen Gosch, Thomas Langhoff, Jorge Lavelli, Klaus Michael Grüber et des chefs d’orchestre comme Kent Nagano, Seiji Ozawa, Semyon Bychkov, Serge Baudo et Stanley Dodds.

Elle a participé à diverses productions pour la télévision et le cinéma sous la direction de metteurs en scène comme Wolfgang Murnberger, Holger Barthel, Nina Companeez, Alain-Michel Blanc, Erhard Riedlsperger, Michi Riebl, Rupert Henning ou Patricia Mazuy.
