Discuss Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

If you are not from US like me and wanna learn about him, don't watch this, pretty much everything mentioned in movie is fiction far from reality starting with unsupportive parents through when he got famous, relationship with Madonna to Jackson stealing his hit Eat It. Up to the Jackson part it was somehow believable exaggeration and only after Beat It I finally checked his Wikipedia to find out I'm wasting my time. So it's not good as biopic and neither it's funny as comedy. 5/10

Pretty sure this was meant to be a mockumentary like Spinal Tap or The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash. I haven't seen this yet but knowing how Weird Al is the king of parody, I would expect no less than for him to make a parody of his own "biopic".

Also the director is the guy who did The Office so that should be a tip off as well.

Not quite. The director of this directed ONE EPISODE of The Office (Season 8, Episode 13 "Jury Duty" in 2012). That's all.

Right. A true story would be much more interesting than this thing. I don't see how saying that "Beat it" was actually a parody of "Eat It' is funny in any way. And all the false crap about he got started. It isn't funny, especially when most people know this is not at all true.

For cryin out loud, you guys realize this film is a parody, right?

From rogerebert.com

“It's a parody of a biopic that turns into an exaggerated absurdity of a real person that treats itself 100% serious and dramatic, which makes it that much more amusing.”

I haven’t seen it but now I’m dying to. Sounds like Spinal Tap which on its initial release angered a lot of confused audience members who couldn’t figure out that it’s a spoof.

I thought parodies are supposed to be funny

To those who realize it’s a parody. Everyone else will walk out angry (which makes it funnier to those who get the joke).
