Its going to have some great action scenes. But its going to flop hard thanks to no China money and the Covid fear. Its projected to be the worst opening MCU film. So we will see.

Why no China money? Lay it on me, I think I forgot. 😆

I don’t actually think it will flop without money from China tbh

The second week drop is going to huge me thinks. It will def lose money unless somehow its just amazing and word of mouth spreads. But its all just predictions at this point so we will see the numbers next week.

Well, I just got back from watching it (in IMAX), and it was pretty amazing. The story is nothing like anyone predicted (or depicted in the trailers), and Tony Leung Chiu-wai stole pretty much every scene he was in.

According to Forbes, it's picked up $140 mil world wide the opening weekend. With a $200 mil budget ($75.5 mil domestic 3 day and $90 mil for the 4 day weekend; over double the record for a labor day weekend), the drop off next weekend would have to be 100% for it to flop now. If it drops in the 70% range like all the other movies, all that would prove is that Scarlett Johansson has no case, as her movie actually made more money because of streaming. However, this would mean bad news for The Eternals and all other Marvel productions this year, which may cause them to be rescheduled.

Its at $146 mil world wide which is great considering the Covids. Sure its $200 mil budget but dont forget the x1.5-2.0 for advertising. So around $400 to $500 mil to make a profit. I cant see this being a flop unless the send week drop is just abnormally large. But didnt the same thing happen to BW? Pretty good first weekend and than nothing. I wonder how this is going to effect the rest of the MCU films and films over all honestly. I think Venom got moved up 20 days...coincidence...Also Shang Chi is #21 when it comes to opening weekend numbers for the MCU. Right below Antman and the Wasp. So this isnt some amazing ground breaking film when it comes to opening weekend numbers. Again, BW had a better opening weekend and we all so how that turned out.

Every movie right now drops 70+% the second week. Shang Chi will probably do the same, but if it does you can bet Marvel will seriously start looking at either rescheduling or pushing for streaming again. Also, Johansson won't really have a case, since it proves she actually made more money because of Disney+.

Very interesting times we are living in for sure. But who knows maybe we will get back to the 1 billion club soon enough with the right film. As for ScarJo, I just read that she wanted $80 mil for BW since there was rumor about streaming as same day cinema release. Jesus.

Box Office Mojo is reporting only a -44% drop this weekend (others are reporting -53%), which is unheard of for any movie put out this year. It's not gonna make the billion dollar club cause China just banned it (due to statements the lead made many many years ago). However, with how it's currently tracking it's not going to bomb either.
The big question now is will Disney bury future Shang-Chi projects nor risk Simu Liu's appearance in future Avengers movies because his involvement would result in an automatic ban in China? I could even see them recasting him due to "creative differences".

I am excited about this. I just have to bring myself to go into a cinema to watch it, however.

more than a movie, a Chinese ass-licking, shang-chi has the psychological depth of a slice of bread

Looks good but I'll be waiting for streaming, same goes for Eternals.
No Way Home will be my first trip back to the cinema for a MCU flick.
