The movie details the struggle of Iancu Jianu as he's torn between joining the struggle of the poor peasants from which he came from and being on the other side of the law working for the rich.

Fiul de boier Iancu slujește domnia ca zapciu, iar Tudor Vladimirescu așteaptă doar un semn ca să ridice Oltenia la luptă. Când haiducul Mereanu fură aurul lui Caragea, Iancu este cel care are grijă ca nimeni să nu încalce legea. Totuși, el află în curând că legea îi apără doar pe cei bogați, iar Iancu este cuprins de simțul datoriei
