En un poble de la Borgonya, a França, es coneixen casualment la Constance i l'Antoine, cadascun amb un passat que no el deixa viure en pau. La Constance ha tornat perquè vol vendre la casa on va viure amb els seus pares, que van morir en circumstàncies estranyes quan ella era petita, i l'Antoine intenta fugir dels records de la violència que ha viscut a l'Àfrica visitant sovint una abadia cistercenca propera. L'arribada de la Constance provoca recel entre els veïns del poble, que no volen remoure un passat violent que encara cueja. Sense voler, la Constance i l'Antoine comencen a desembullar la troca, i això provoca reaccions al poble i a l'abadia que els posen en perill.

Il y fait la connaissance de Constance, la très séduisante fille adoptive de la patronne de l’auberge, Mme Naudy. Constance elle aussi a son secret. Elle tente de découvrir la vérité sur la mort de ses parents Eva et Louis Lacassan, vérité qui lui est cachée depuis trop longtemps. Et puis il y a Juju qui dit voir le fantôme d’Eva, la femme aux cheveux rouges. Une piste dans l’enquête de Constance ? Entre Antoine et Constance, ces deux êtres blessés, se tissent petit à petit une histoire qui les aidera peut être à aller au bout de leur aventure.
