Martial Perrin is the president of a right-wing political party which is gearing itself up for a forthcoming election. When he learns that a notorious criminal named Kraus has escaped from prison, Perrin panics and goes into hiding. His deputy, Constant, hires Perrin’s cousin, Gilbert, an actor who is a perfect double of Perrin, to replace him. What Gilbert does no know is that the killer Kraus is bumping off the people who were implicated in the affair for which he was arrested, and that Perrin is next on his list.

1978, à Paris. En pleine campagne électorale, le politicien Martial Perrin, Président du parti centriste des Conservateurs Indépendants Progressistes (CIP) apprend par la radio et la télévision l'évasion de Richard Krauss, un ancien mercenaire qui s'est promis de tuer tous ceux de son entourage qui l'ont fait condamner il y a plus de dix ans lors d'une action violente contre le pouvoir à Djibouti qui était à cette époque encore une colonie française.

Дело в том, что из тюрьмы сбежал его давний знакомый — бывший наемник, осуждённый за насилие и попытку переворота в Джибути (тогда это была французская колония в Африке). На суде тот пообещал убить всех, связанных с этим делом промышленников, финансистов и политиков. А значит — и Перрена. И он решается на подмену. Его место занимает очень похожий на него двоюродный брат, актер.
