Discuss Rain Man

Charlie's shift from vile, exploitative human being looking for money at any cost to rounded human being (with some vile character traits) who at least tried to connect with his unknown brother was very deftly handled by director and actor. It could have a very clunky and unbelievable development in lesser hands.

As it is, I think the director even left it open to interpretation to what extent Charlie would be a part of Raymond's life again. The film left the melancholy sense that Charlie did care for his brother but felt trying to change Raymond's life would be futile and that Raymond truly would be happier simply institutionalised.
