Overview

Based on the short story, "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been", by Joyce Carol Oates, this film chronicles a 15-year-old girl, Connie's, (Laura Dern) sexual awakening in the Northern California suburbs. Her experimentations begin to get out of hand when the mysterious Arnold Friend Treat Williams) takes an interest in her. Offbeat, dark-edged, coming-of-age tale about beautiful teenager drawn to menacing stranger. Critics praised the strong, realistic performances. Worthwhile for fans of compelling, small-scale psychological dramas and sharply drawn character portraits.
