This one is for the API experts. nerd

And one more note, if you're wanting to take advantage of the images we have marked as primary, you can use the poster_path returned in the get details method. Same goes for the poster_path returned in all of the list methods (search, discover, top rated, etc...) That will match what is on the website.

so not an error ? who / what makes it a "marked as primary" ?

thx Travis, I know this, but the software I use, uses "images" API and I fail to see why the website and API has diff. #1 image (cover), ppl use website to vote and then get #1 image (best "vote_average") via API (well I do)

No, not an error. The moderators and I can make an image a primary image. This is outlined in the bible. You'll find a primary image chosen for a lot of the more popular films since there's so much voting churn and abuse. If we find one we're happy with, we choose it and that's it. The website also has the "theme" attached to it and having the poster change constantly makes the theme not match so it's also a means to help with that.

This has no impact on voting, if you want the highest rated image then you can still get that via the API.

ok, then I have a request to the API: on e.g. https://developers.themoviedb.org/3/movies/get-movie-images

add a "primary" = true/false

then we can chose to use "primary" over top rated, thx.
