In an orphanage around the year 1900, the principal of an orphanage tries to earn some money by selling the orphans for child labour. The moment we step in the story one of the orphans, Wim, is about to be sold to a brutal man. The man wants Wim to go to the market with a little monkey to pickpocket people. By the time they get to the market, Wim succeeds in escaping with the monkey by hiding in an old canalboat with the help of Jet, a girl who lives at the countryside. When they arrive at the farm where Jet lives, he meets Jets little sister Sien and her friend Ot, two little children who will take care of Wim and the monkey for the next weeks. When the brutal man finally finds out the hiding place of Wim, a true chase follows and Wim is locked up in the orphanage again. But then Jet’s father, a schoolteacher, interferes…. Aux alentours de 1900, le directeur d'un orphelinat tente de gagner un peu d'argent en vendant les orphelins pour le travail des enfants. Dès que nous entrons dans l'histoire, un des orphelins, Wim, est sur le point d'être vendu à un homme brutal. L'homme veut que Wim aille au marché avec un petit singe pour voler les gens. Lorsqu'ils arrivent au marché, Wim réussit à s'échapper avec le singe en se cachant dans une vieille péniche avec l'aide de Jet, une fille qui vit à la campagne. Lorsqu'ils arrivent à la ferme où vit Jet, il rencontre sa petite sœur Sien et son ami Ot, deux petits enfants qui s'occuperont de Wim et du singe pendant les prochaines semaines. Lorsque l'homme brutal découvre enfin la cachette de Wim, une véritable course-poursuite s'ensuit et Wim est à nouveau enfermé à l'orphelinat. Mais c'est alors que le père de Jet, un instituteur, interfère..... Une histoire pour toute la famille sur le début de la scolarité obligatoire en 3D !

L'istruzione nei Paesi Bassi intorno all'anno 1900 non è ancora obbligatoria e molti bambini non frequentano la scuola ma vengono sfruttati nelle fabbriche e nei lavori della terra. Solo i figli di genitori ricchi possono permettersi di imparare a leggere e scrivere. Molti bimbi vengono ceduti dalla direttrice del loro orfanotrofio per lavorare. Il coraggioso Wim, però, desidera andare a scuola e, fuggendo dalla struttura, fa amicizia con Jet, la figlia di un maestro di scuola. Wim e la sua scimmia si nascondono così nella fattoria della ragazzina, stringendo con lei un patto di reciproco aiuto che coinvolge anche Gijs, un compagno di classe di lei. In paese, però, ben presto iniziano a verificarsi strani furti...
