Deze animatiefilm bestaat uit zes sequenties die allemaal door een andere studio en regisseur gemaakt zijn. Het geheel vormt een verhaal dat gebaseerd werd op het eerste deel van de klassieke klucht "The Divine Comedy" van Dante Alighieri. Hoofdfiguur Dante treft zijn verloofde bij thuiskomst van een kruisvaart stervende aan. Hij ziet haar ziel meegenomen worden door de Duivel en moet de negen cirkels van de hel trotseren om haar te redden.

Dante's Hell Animated is a real and truthful epic animation film that embarks Dante Alighieri's journey through the first part of the afterlife, Hell. It is a compelling four-quadrant film presented circle by circle in a chronological descent to the center of Hell, and to the exit into Purgatory. Dante's Hell Animated comes in two versions, one recited in primitive Italian in Dante's own words, and another narrated in English better understanding in this non-original language. Dante is guided by his hero Virgil through each circle of Hell and their subdivisions until they reach the center of the Earth and escaped to the other hemisphere into Purgatory. It features over 50 original color illustrations from the upcoming Dante's Hell comic book and magazine series, put together in a series of animation clips that will delight young and mature audiences.

La storia inizia quando Dante Alighieri, che per l'occasione è un guerriero, sta lottando nel bel mezzo della Terza Crociata. Nonostante la sua forza bruta abbia avuto la meglio in molte occasioni, viene pugnalato alle spalle e cosi’ si trova faccia a faccia col Tristo Mietitore, che lo condanna all’eterna dannazione per i suoi peccati. Dante è convinto che ciò sia impossibile poiché il clero aveva assicurato ai crociati la redenzione qualora si fosse morti combattendo. Grande è la delusione e la rabbia quando la Morte gli fà capire di essere stato non solo ingannato riguardo la gravità dei suoi peccati ma anche sul fatto che il clero non ha alcun potere. Ma l’eroe non si arrende…

En animerad spin-off-film till TV-spelet Dante's Inferno. Löst baserat på Dantes resa genom helvetet i boken Den Gudomliga Komedin så får vi här istället följa den kristna korsriddaren Dante när han måste kämpa sig genom helvetets nio kretsar för att rädda sin trolovade Beatrice. Animerad av fyra olika studior och sex regissörer med varierande stilar.
