富家女松村伊都子（池内淳子 饰）生日之夜怪事连连，切蛋糕伤到手指、停电、沉寂已久的电铃骤然响起、鬼魅的身影。其父重胜（中村虎彦 饰）在楼上竟发现失踪二十年之久的妻子美和子（三原叶子 饰），令他难以置信的是，美和子仍保持着二十年前的年轻容貌。次日伊都子与在《东京时代》担任记者的未婚夫大木民夫（和田桂之助 饰）参加画展，偶然发现一幅不知名画家的作品，画上的女子和母亲一模一样。

Tamio takes Itsuko to an art gallery and the two find one painting is a nude portrait of Itsuko's mother, who disappeared twenty years ago when she was just a baby. No one knows the first thing about the artist who painted it, but he goes by the name Shiro Sofue, and he's always wearing shades in the daytime...

20년 전 홀연히 사라진 미와코는 20년 전 그대로의 모습으로 갑자기 집으로 돌아온다. 미와코의 딸 이토코는 한 미술 전시회에서 자신의 엄마와 닮은 여자의 누드 사진을 보게 된다. 이토코와 신문 기자인 그녀의 약혼자 타미오는 진실을 파헤치기 위해 나선다.
