Despite a rock-solid cast this alleged film noir is just a bore. The pace is just so wrong. For example they'll go from exciting action to a guy doing paperwork at the office. I would say it's jarring but that would imply that you actually get some sort of excitement from the film. You don't. Sure, noir completists will have to watch it... but fans for the three leads will understand they did this one out of obligations to RKO. This one is a remake of a 1928 crime film... one that helped define the gangster films of the 30s and beyond.
