Carlos, a boy from a proletarian neighbourhood in Malaga, loses his father in an accident and his family demands that he becomes the head of the family. Carlos does not want to accept this role and the only way he can think of to avoid the situation is to lie: every morning he goes out in his father's old suit to an imaginary job. Of course, to get the money his mother asks for, he will have to feed this farce day by day. And the lie will grow as tall but as weak as a house of cards.

Carlos contra el mundo es la historia de un chico de veinticinco años de un barrio proletario de Málaga al que, tras la muerte de su padre, la familia le exige que ocupe el lugar de éste. Que se convierta en padre de familia. Un papel que Carlos no quiere aceptar. Así que la única forma que se le ocurre para esquivar la situación es mentir: Carlos inventa un trabajo y cada mañana sale con el antiguo traje del padre hacia su empleo imaginario. Pero para conseguir el dinero que la madre le pide habrá que alimentar esta mentira día a día. Y la mentira crecerá tan alta como un castillo de naipes y tan débil como éste.
