Discuss A Boy and His Dog

I haven't seen this short in a few years, but recall it fondly. It's a sweet, timeless story about a boy and his dog, love, caring, kindness, and doing the right thing.

It's nothing flashy, production wise, in fact is decidedly very basic and down to earth. But it's well-told and portrayed, and with complete sincerity and much heart. Definitely touching.

A bit of trivia: If you happen to be a fan of classic films, Billy Sheffield, who plays the boy Davy Allen, was the younger brother of much better known Johnny Sheffield who played "Boy" in the Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan series of films, and later Bomba the jungle boy in the Bomba series of films. (Billy's and Johnny's father was actor Reginald Sheffield, who perhaps most notably appeared as one of Leslie Howard's best friends, Cyril, in the pivotal Bette Davis classic Of Human Bondage; Cyril is the friend who Howard's Philip Carey character unfortunately meets awful Mildred via.) Meanwhile, Dorothy Allen, who plays Davy's mom in this short, if she looks familiar to you it's probably because you remember her for her portrayal (rather memorable) of the title character's maid in the classic film Laura.
