Novomanželé Einar a Puck odjíždějí na venkov, do domu Einarova dětství, aby zde příjemně strávili několik týdnů volna. Klidu se však nedočkají. Krátce po příjezdu najde Einar na zahradě mrtvolu mladého muže – Tommyho – adoptovaného syna plukovníka Holta a jeho podváděné manželky Margit. Do Skogy přijíždí komisař Christer, pověřený vyšetřováním vraždy ženy pochybné pověsti na předměstí Stockholmu. Ukazuje se, že obě vraždy spolu úzce souvisí. Tommy ženu krátce před svou smrtí navštívil a podle zápisu na matrice se dokonce jednalo o jeho biologickou matku.

Puck and Einar decide to spend the last weeks of their vacation in Einar's idyllic childhood town Skoga. Pucks father Johannes Ekstedt, professor in Egyptology, has a household cat called Thotmes III that joins the couple. They get to borrow both Einar's sisters beautiful old wooden house as well as her highly competent housekeeper. But after the first night, the idyll crumbles. Einar finds a dead body on the lawn, a young man stabbed to death by a dagger. Christer Wijk enters the stage and with the help of Pucks observations the mystery approaches its tragic solution.

Niestety, to właśnie on znajdzie na trawniku przed domem zwłoki... Co więcej narzędziem zbrodni okaże się egipski sztylet, który profesor przywiózł ze sobą. Do akcji będzie musiał wkroczyć komisarz Christer Wijk (Ola Rapace)...
