I rarely see any Czech films, so this one is a pleasant surprise. It’s about a nurse in WWII who helps spy agianst the Germans but has to flee to the countryside to avoid capture. She marries one of her patients to complete the disguise. The film shows us the transition she has to undergo, her developing love in an intiailly reluctant marriage, various aspects of country life, and the ever present danger of Germans and partisans.

Nothing revolutionary here, but the characters are interesting, scenery is gorgeous, and the storlyine engrossing. I think this film was a Czech entry for Oscar Best foreign film.
