Discuss The Night Before Christmas

This 9-minutes Silent short is a treasure. The fact that it's from 117 years - nearly a century and a quarter - ago definitely contributes to its enchanting appeal and unique charm. So does the fact that this film's Santa looks and seems so like the genuine article. This being from so very long ago results in the viewer feeling like we're seeing a true historical record of Santa (rather than a performing actor) doing his thing back in the day.

This high-quality short is one of the delightful films that's included on the wonderful KINO A Christmas Past: Vintage Holiday Films 1901-1925 2002-release DVD.

Al Kryszak's glittering harp score, that was composed and recorded especially for this movie's inclusion on the mentioned DVD, is the perfect mystically magical accompaniment.

In my opinion, everything about this gentle holiday short works and continues to beautifully hold up. That includes the charmingly simple, but surprisingly effective, special effects. I recommend The Night Before Christmas 1905 for anyone who loves history, old-fashioned Christmases and their lore, or/and Silent cinema. You'll appreciate and enjoy this.

Here it is. (FYI: Picture quality is brighter and otherwise better on the DVD.)
