Cant believe she raised the kids for 16 years and when things got tough she gave up on them for wealth. Could not wrap my head around the things she would do for money. Makes me believe she was never a good person to begin with or ever love those kids

You're right. She was never a good person. The audience is (supposed to be) as taken in as the kids were. She turned out to be quite a villain, didn't she?

Read the prequel. Her father spoiled her rotten made worse by her good looks and popularity. Only when she was with Chris did she really ever have a heart
