「沃野千里，天府之土」这是诸葛亮对于四川的赞誉，「天府之国」的美称也因此驰名于中外。其中，最受国际瞩目的莫过于卧龙的「大熊猫自然保护区」。保护区内熊猫数量将近有一百五十只左右，占了全中国总数量的十分之一。号称「动物活化石」的大熊猫，最早的始祖出现在距今数百万年以前，是一种肉食性动物，经过长期演化之后，转变成以竹子为主食。由于人类的猎捕与栖地遭受破坏的威胁，如今全世界仅剩下大熊猫一千六百只，零星散落于中国陕西南部、甘肃以及四川等地，其中超过八成分布于四川。本片深入四川内陆详细报导熊猫的保育与成长过程，浑圆憨厚的熊猫人见人爱，饲养员为了照顾与喂饱熊猫付出了极大了心力与劳力。卧龙基地不但吸引了大批人潮，造成当地大量的观光收益。1961年，熊猫获选为「世界自然基金会」的标志。熊猫从此化身为文化大使，频频代表中国出访美国和日本等国家，推展国际外交，同时为中国创造出大量的外汇收益。数十年来，卧龙基地为人类与动物间的自然之大爱做了绝佳示范。
