Discuss Stories We Tell

I have zero in soap operas and in the small details of the lives of other families, but this was really an engaging and worthwhile piece of work, even if I dont really buy the conceit that this was an examination of different narratives.

But I think a lot of people come out from this film losing face.

  • Diane for infidelity and a lack of consideration for the welfare of her children in two separate families.
  • Harry, for being self centred and stubbornly delusional.
  • Sarah, for having pleaded with Harry to keep sensitive details under wraps because it would hurt Michael, but then being willing to disclose to the whole world at the end that Diane was sleeping with yet another guy during her 'love affair' with Harry. A revelation that will certainly have hurt Harry, possible to a similar extent as Sarah considers Micharl may have been hurt (and context suggests this was not a one off with Geoff).

Still, I have to assume that given every sibling and Harry signed up to appear on camera, they are happy enough with all this dirty laundry being aired and dont want to throttle Sarah. Dysfunctional isnt the word. I hope all these siblings emerged from such a strange upbringing without too many scars.
