《机巧奇传》（機巧奇傳ヒヲウ戦記）为以幕末到明治维新时期的日本为舞台、是一部描述主角・ヒヲウ驾驶巨大的人偶‘炎（ほむら）’在乱世之中冒险的冒险剧、全26集的电视动画。

　　从2000年10月在NHK卫星第2频道毎周二18时30分播放之后、也在2004年从キッズステーション和每日放送（アニメシャワー枠）播放。

　　另外也有漫画版存在。中文版在台湾由尖端出版代理发行，译名为《幕府游龙－机巧奇传》。

8 years ago, Western Civilization visited 19th century Japan. Mechanized dolls and new steam-powered creations began spreading throughout the country. The Wind Gang is a group of doll and steam users who believe in using their creations to violently bring about a new Industrial Era. They attack and destroy the peaceful village of a young doll user named Hiwou one day. Hiwou and his friends escape with a giant doll named Homura. Hiwou now wants to find his father, so that he can help defeat the Wind Gang, and bring peace back to Japan.

Giappone, periodo Meiji. Un ragazzo di nome Hyou (in originale Hiwō) fa parte, come i fratelli, del popolo dei meccanici. Questo popolo è in grado di costruire i karakuri, antichi mecha di legno. Hyou deve combattere, insieme ai fratelli, i Fujin, che utilizzano anch'essi i karakuri, però a scopi maligni.

Hiwou es un niño que lleva una placida vida con sus amigos en su aldea. Un día, una misteriosa organización ataca con unos extraños robots gigantes el pueblo de Hiwou y comienza a conquistar todo el territorio de Japón. Hiwou comenzará con sus amigos una aventura en busca de su padre, quien lucha contra la organización.
