Discussão Obi-Wan Kenobi

...Darth Vader is Anakin? I know he was in deep hiding but surely he had heard of Darth Vader by then. I mean, I guess its feasible if he really just heard absolutely no chatter about the empire but my initial reaction was that it did not seem believable.

Let's hope that one of the big reveals is not, that he did know or suspect, but decided to not tell Luke or anyone else.

I don't know. He seemed genuinely shocked to have heard the news. Even little Leia was like, "Are you OK?" as she could tell something was bothering him.

BTW so far I like the show. Much better than the last chapters of the Skywalker saga.

What is also surprising is that Ben has known about Vader being Vader for a long time, and has never told this to Luke in "A New Hope (1977)".

Did anyone else, like Yoda, know, except for Luke, who only found out who Darth Vader is in "The Empire Strikes Back (1980)"?

Oh for sure Yoda knew. And Kenobi looked visibly uncomfortable when Luke asks him about his father's demise. He did give the impression that what he was telling him was a made up story.

Well, he also didn't tell him about his sister. He intentionally lied to him about that. When Luke asked, how did his father die, Ben said:

"A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil... He betrayed and murdered your father."

This could mean only one thing - he knew, who Vader is, and decided not to tell Luke about that. Probably thought it would be too complicated to explain, and better if a boy would discover that himself when the time comes.

Ahsoka knew after she fought Vader at the Sith temple on Malachor, and suspected long before that.

So, in the movie "A New Hope (1977)", everyone who was important already knew that Darth Vader was Luke's father, except Luke himself.

Did he ever confront them in the movie sequels, asking them "Why didn't you tell me?", or did he die without ever knowing that they withheld the truth?

Not sure about that. Yoda, Kenobi, and Palpatine knew that Vader is Anakin. Probably also Tarkin, at least he could've figured that out, considering that he fought alongside both Anakin and Vader. I think only Yoda, Kenobi and Bail Organa knew for certain that Luke and Leia were Anakin's kids, but haven's told either of them. And both Ben and Bail died in A New Hope. No one else knew about the kids at all. Even Vader himself didn't know that Luke was his son until after the events of The Empire Strikes Back. And uncle Owen probably wasn't aware that his brother is alive and became a Sith lord. Leia and the rest of the gang didn't know until Luke told them.

I think at some point it just didn't matter to Luke anymore. And probably he only knew that Kenobi knew, and it was already too late to confront him. And there's no point in confronting Yoda :D

I think Obi-Wan's brain is a bit fuzzy.

He also manages to forget that Leia even exists by the time of the OT, despite being present at her birth and being involved in this adventure as well.

Well it seems Leia forgot who Obi-wan was as well when you hear her message she puts in R2-D2 in ANH.

Yeah, also true!

Maybe this series will wrap up with Bail Organa ordering further memory wipes for both Leia and Obi-Wan! Problem "solved".

Memory rubbing, aka memory wipe, aka memory flush was a telepathic Force technique that allowed an individual to use the Force to alter or erase both the memories and/or learned skills of another.

Gosh, this is as bad as Superman's memory wiping kiss he gives Louis Lane so that she forgets that Clark Kent is Superman. But I gotta say one of the things that they did in the SW universe that really bugged me was bringing back Darth Maul in The Clone Wars series. Yeah, I get it. He was a really cool underused character. Write some prequel story but having him survive being sliced in half was ridiculous.

Yeah, he talks to Ben about it in Return of the Jedi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nO0uJenOgw

When Luke goes back to Dagoba to complete his training with Yoda in RotJ, he ends up having a conversation with Kenobi where Kenobi finally admits to knowing Vader was Anakin, Luke's father and hiding it from Luke. He also reveals Leia as Luke's sister (Luke actually guesses it).

But to be fair Obi-Wan didn't know about that until after Yoda had told him in The Empire Strikes Back.
