Remember Kim ll Sung, the North Korean communist starter of the Korean War, was never mentioned on either show.
The main point I am getting at is the remaining regular actors all played their roles with a very heavy-handed and deep acting style. In the shows very last season. When three of them went and did Aftermash they had to return to the more lightweight style of their first three seasons on the original ( where in season 3 Harry Morgan played Gen. Steele). This was quite a regression in acting after the deadpanned seriously intentioned delivery they all gave in the final year of the original. A conscientious decision probably had to be made all three actor's part to regressing acting back to humorous. They had originally expected to finally disappear their characters on a highly grave note.
Think of the plight of the beautiful Rosalind Chao. Her character was introduced 100 percent serious in the second last original series ep. She now had to make Soo Lee rather funny!
