In Netflix there are at least 2 copies of the chess magazine. In the book Beth thinks there was only one copy and after she steals it worries that the man might notice that she took it. Later in another Netflix episode the shopkeeper does accuse her of the theft, but he probably just was more alert than she thought. I have not come to that part in the book, if it is in the book.
