Wasn't the TAS character a Kitzindi? Also the fact that countries outside the US and Canada can't watch this doesn't give me any faith this will be a success.
I thought TNG did pretty well with the "Lower Decks" episode, I'm not seeing any quality added here.
That TNG episode was so good in establishing parts of life on a starship, which I at least had never considered before, along with setting up brand new characters that left an impression.
The cartoon meanwhile was great at making me groan and dislike it for using Star Trek merely as a backdrop, while offering nothing meaningful and being empty. This despite overflowing with crude, cringy "humor" that mocked Star Trek like a substandard SNL sketch from Hell

What I've read and seen (review clips, etc) about this show seems to be that much of what's going on is very serious stuff, planetary threats etc, that the captain of the ship and other higher-ups WOULD BE involved with, but they just... aren't. Which is simply BS.

That would be correct.
According to Lower Decks, there's a senior staff on a starship somewhere that, despite graduating from Starfleet Academy, act so petty it's a miracle they made it out of Kindergarten.
Any code of conduct established on TNG, DS9 and VOY is non-existent in the senior staff, who don't even behave like they grew up in the 24th century
Is the Lower Decks series going to be like another version of the 2009 movie and later, in which Kirk didn't have years of experience before getting command of the Enterprise, so that millennials can believe they too can command a starship because they're real good at video games and skateboarding?
Yeah and be prepared for 5 years more of this shit since the higher ups at CBS decided to give Kurtzman a new contract until 2026 .Well that's it for Star Trek it is over it's dead! Five more years of this shit mean gay Kirk and a Spock /Kirk love story ,a lesbian Janeway and a transgender Sisko. Star Trek died in 2005

Do you mean Kzin/Kzinti? From the TAS episode "Slaver Weapon?" Maybe they didn't want to pay royalties to Larry Niven for using the... species?

I thought STD&P were supposed to take care of that.
Do Animated-Americans feel slighted?

The TNG episode did better on every part of that.
