I dunno, there's dramatization, but this is just waaaay out there.
At some level I connect with the main character who just doesn't really wanna be there, but Zendaya seems to always play those kind of roles, doesn't she?
Having reached the 3rd episode, it seems like quite a bit of this is intended for shock value. This plays into the ages of the cast members and what the audience is likely to expect from them. I mean, they didn't have to focus on this type of high schoolers, but they did. Anyways, I'm enjoying the show... the music is very good, and I like how Zendaya is the main character. I daresay she comes off as a "natural" as druggie Rue, given plenty to work with. In the first episode, during that party scene where she's riffing about an old experience to a guy, she is totally in the right zone and never leaves it, not for a second.
Somebody wrote that the editing could be tightened up - I disagree. The show has this uneasy quality and the arbitrary lingering on various moments makes it feel more like real life. In closing, I shouldn't have taken so long to get into this!
Kat's origin story was interesting, I mean, it was a cool idea to have someone so young get famous writing porn online
The animation came outta nowhere and was fun to look at... I especially liked the transition from animation back to live action with Kat on those bleacher seats
Rue's "dick lecture." Ha ha ha....
And finally, I just loved Zendaya's acting in this ep
I guess ep 4 is supposed to get really tense, so I'm eager for that
