Discuss The Outsider

it really seems like it could have been a mini-series of 3 episodes, 4 or 5 tops.

So far, 5 eps in, I do. Not that it couldn't fit into a 3-hour movie, like the Green Mile. If anything I even think it's rushed at times, eg. when Holly is introduced and within 5 minutes we've been forcibly fed her entire life character, or more generally as there is no "pointless" and "endless" scene that doesn't closely relate to the main story. It's rather generic S. King material, direction and acting, but effective nonetheless as far as I'm concerned. So all in all, though feelings about timing are obviously very subjective, I quite enjoy the way the tension is slowly building up and the more the mystery is being unravelled, the more the nightmare is closing up onto the main characters. Maybe i'll change my mind in the second part.

I think too ! It seams to be a movie which was stretched into a series. Seriously this story not requires 9-10 hours to be narrated. I was very frustrated. ..

So I finally got around to seeing this, and overall I'd say not really. I think it could've gone down to 8 episodes, but overall I think they used the time they had effectively. It's a slow burn on purpose. It's essentially a crime/detective thriller if the murderer was a supernatural monster. The characters not only need time to come to terms with the fact the monster is real and it exists, but to establish its MO and its history of victims.

It also does some pretty decent work with its minor characters so that we care about them at least a little before they die in the last episode. I can certainly see a cut of the show where they cut out some of minor plot points, but I find them to be more fulfilling to the big picture. The monster feeds off of grief, so we spend a lot of time with the grief these various characters are going through.
