Item: Cowboy Bebop

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: Hi, can you change the runtime? It seems like someone put random numbers in there. The right one is 53 (the arithmetic mean). Thank you.

They are not random numbers, they are the runtimes from the Netflix app. Episode runtime is not meant to be the average runtime of all episodes, just the general duration of one episode (within reason). Since the episode runtime is not constant, multiple runtimes are allowed.

In any case, I started each episode to see the actual runtime and about half are closer to 50 while the rest are closer to 40 so I updated it with those two.

Additionally, the runtimes displayed on the site look to not be entirely accurate. Binary Two-Step (episode 6) is displayed as having a 60 minute runtime but when you play the episode, the actual runtime is 41:45, almost twenty less than the 60m displayed on the site.

Not to be difficult here but this doesn't make really sense. Since on the main page is displayed only one runtime isn't it just better to put the average one? Or at least just give the opportunity to put the runtime for every single episode like another site similar to TMDB (I'm not going to say the name). Even putting the right exact runtime is not right since all the series I saw on the site are wrong if you put it this way, so are you going to change all of them? I doubt it...

No. The runtime field is meant for any and all variations in runtime (within reason), not the average runtime.

Take for example a 4 episode series; episode 1 is 43 minutes, episode 2 is 42 minutes, episode 3 is 43 minutes, and episode 4 is 117 minutes. The correct value for the runtime field would not be 61 (which is the average), it would be 43 and 117 since the first 3 episodes are similar in length and the fourth is wildly different.

This is planned for the future but I do not have an ETA. You can vote for it on TMDb's Trello board.

Please re-read the runtime guidelines in the Contribution Bible before you continue adding runtimes.

But the problem with the main page is still there tho. What is the point to put two, three, four runtimes if on the main page it's showed only one? I read the guideline and it says 'When the runtime is not constant, multiple runtimes are allowed'. To me allow is different to obligation so the avarage should be fine too.

But i repeat I'm not trying to being difficult I just want to point out what I don't like as a user. What you do with this information is up to you.

The point is that those are the runtimes for the episodes. Just because only one is shown on the main page doesn't mean only one can be added.

It says "allowed" because there should only ever be one number unless the runtime is not constant.

I repeat for me doesn't make really sense or at least not until you approve of the single episode runtime thing. But if you prefer differently there is nothing I can do, I guess. Thank you for the time anyway and have a good day :)

Adding differing runtimes to the runtime field is the only thing we can do for now.
