I just binge watched the first season on Netflix. The first episode keeps you almost completely in the dark about the plot; it just gives some clues, indications something really weird is going on the the socalled tidelanders. They are different, have special powers over water based liquids.

This is another Aussie based show. I am liking these shows a lot. Glitch, Secret City, and now Tidelands, are all good Aussie shows.

The tidelander queen is a self centered, treacherous, power seeking bitch as it turns out. Augie McTeer is a human, a criminal, the leader of a crew that trafficks drugs, buying them from the tidelanders. His sister Caliope McTeer is estranged from her mother, who has never liked Cal. Cal just returned to town after spending 10 years in prison for setting fire to a house which had a policeman in it. He was already dead, but she was blamed for killing him.

It takes a few episodes before you begin to figure out the tidelanders are not completely human, that the criminal gangs have a deal with the local police to keep out of their business, and that Cal is of interest to the tidelanders.

The story kept me interested enough to binge watch it.
