Re Line Wolf and Cub - yes absolutely. Throw in some Dollars trilogy for good measure too.
Star Wars at its heart has always been a Space-Samurai-Western - and by consciously hitting beats from both genres, so far the series has hit a real sweet spot.
I think he identifies with the baby yoda because they are both "foundlings" (read orphans). Plus he may also feel he owes hime a life-debt because he was saved from the mudhorn.
