Lone Wolf and Cub vibe... anyone else?

Could be. I am curious why Mando would take such a big risk to rescue the baby Yoda - does he have other plans for it or was it just a "I'm not leaving it with these bastards" kind of thing.

Re Line Wolf and Cub - yes absolutely. Throw in some Dollars trilogy for good measure too. Star Wars at its heart has always been a Space-Samurai-Western - and by consciously hitting beats from both genres, so far the series has hit a real sweet spot.

I think he identifies with the baby yoda because they are both "foundlings" (read orphans). Plus he may also feel he owes hime a life-debt because he was saved from the mudhorn.
