I just watched the pilot of this show. I want to like it because I like so many of its stars. Although I haven’t written it off completely, I couldn't quite commit; mostly because it seems like a "This Is Us" clone. I know that's not a minus for those who do not watch TIU. But, AMLT's greatest-guy-in-the-world-dying, but appearing in every-other-scene theme seems right out of TIU’s playbook.
Also, TIS made us earn our devotion to the characters. Before we could identify with them—empathize with them we had to live through their tug-at-the-heart--there-but-for-the-grace-of-God…moments. AMLT, on the other hand, is pulling out all dramatic (soap-opera-like) stops in bundling these and jamming them down our throats. We don’t “care” about these people—so, why should we “care” about their miss-steps, trials, tribulations, or triumphs?
That being said; my question to the people who are watching both shows : How do you think AMLT compares to TIU? I know it’s a broad question; so whatever direction you decide to go with your comment is .

When I started watching it (because of one of the actors), I was prepared for a TIU clone because I had seen comments conveying that it was - in a derisive tone. But, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't. TIS can be a bit too cloying, and AMLT seems a little more gritty, which I like. AMLT is trying too hard, though. Your right about not caring about the characters yet. They are pulling out all the stops to make us emotional, but it is not working. I am not feeling it. The actor I was excited to watch probably is the worst at making the emotions believable. So sad. But, that said, I will still watch because it has potential. I'm hoping it will settle in and hit its groove soon.

I started watching AMLT for 2 of the actors- James Roday (Psych ) and David Giuntoli (Grimm ), it is good to see them back on TV again. The only reason I started watching TIS was for Milo Ventimiglia. I continued watching for the 'family feels' , situations, the great cast and their acting (and Milo ).
I totally agree.
This exactly.
Would that be James Roday? Because most times I thought he was acting the same way he did on Psych.
Me too, I'm interested in seeing how it develops.

...and does anyone else think that Ron Livingston and Mark Duplass look eerily alike?

Don't remember seeing the actor in anything; but checked him out and found a close-up of him on the phone in the movie "Zero Dark Thirty". So the answer to your question is yes.

I started watching for David Guintoli who is also the one I don't think did very well in the emotional scenes. :(
I've seen Romany Malco in something, and I like him too.

I love This is Us, and I'm liking A Million Little Things more each episode. What I realized more than anything is that I really miss Grimm! 😪
