There should ideally only be one version, but which one? We always try to follow the original airing format, however, I failed to find the original ITV website for the series (if there was one).
In the UK, it appears that it was first announced as a four-part adaptation of the novels. I've found similar US articles for the subsequent April 1999 airing on A&E. The American website is here.
The first two parts sequel premiered in the US on Sundays April 8 and 15, 2001. It aired in March 2002 in the UK.
The final two part sequel aired in January 2003 in the UK and December 2003 in the US.
The films were released as both a TV series for a subsequent ITV re-airing and as individual films on DVD.
