In the May 1 episode, Gemma is receiving an award and Tina takes her to her hair stylist. When Gemma shows up at the award ceremony, Tina looks shocked and exclaims that Gemma has “black girl hair”. Well, for starters, Tina took her to a black hairdresser. What was she expecting? Next, what exactly was wrong with Gemma’s hairstyle? Respect the Roots of Black Hair
Cultural appropriation. Black hair is sacred. Black women have historically been made to feel like their hair is unkempt or nappy and it isn't considered good or professional when white women adopt or co-opt their hairstyle.
