"The Shade is an immortal being with the ability to control darkness. He can manipulate shadows and travel through darkness."

In season one Richard Swift (aka The Shade) (Jonathan Cake), a former member of the Injustice Society of America, abandoned the cause 'Project New America'.

Now he has returned to Blue Valley and, posing as an antique dealer, he wants to buy the late William Zarick's collection of stage magic. There is one particular item he is looking for: the box that Eclipso's black diamond was kept in seems to be rather important.

"Um, do you mind if I keep this. It's just an empty box."

Pat bumps into him at Richie's Diner and they have a short conversation. He notices Richard wearing an antique watch, that is the same as the one owned by The Shade. Later he tells Courtney about his suspicions.

"Right, right. It's actually funny you should mention that, because well there is this villain from the old days called The Shade. He's bad news and he's the last member of the Injustice Society that's unaccounted for, and I think he's in Blue Valley."

The JSA confront The Shade in S2E03 , but they are no match for him and he vanishes in the shadows.
