Discuss Agatha Christie's Poirot

Mine are:

TAKEN AT THE FLOOD: The novel was horrible, Poirot helped Lynn hide her strangulation marks and encouraged her to marry David Rowley, Which she did of course because strong women like men who are abusive. The TV adaptation did the right thing here, getting her to leave and explore the world.

Hickory Dickory Dock. Although it made the Hostel full of students and removed the multiculturalisms Christie was trying to get across in her book, I fully understand and agree with the removal of Chandra Lal, Achmed and Akibombo. Not many TV networks would air a show which adapts “Akibombo nodded his big woolly head and smiled his picaninny smile”.

The Big four I don’t think this adaptation is very good BUT I fully understand the need to change the book, it’s impossible to film. Poirot hang-gliding, hiding out in a high tech palace in a mountain, fooling everyone into thinking he’s his own twin... 4 powerful people in their own field from across the globe comign together to steal the worlds money... None of this could have been done like it’s written.

That said the adaptation could have been so much better, for one thing giving Hastings and Miss lemon something to do.

Elephants can Remember:

I’ve never been able to finish this book. Unfortunately it just drones on and on, it’s just full of quotation marks. The murder happens in the past, but is all over the place, ten years ago, then twenty then when the main character was a young man...

It’s easy to see why book is used in evidence that she had the first stages of dementia, as sad as that is, not nice to read when you consider how great Christie was in her prime.

Back during my school years growing up, I was addicted to reading one Agatha Christie novel after another. They sure were always hard to put down.

Unfortunately it's now been so long that I don't really remember anything specific about the novels, so really just remain familiar with stories as depicted in primarily the David Suchet Poirot series.
