Item: Smartare än en femteklassare?
Language: en
Type of Problem: Incorrect_content
Extra Details: Hi!
Please unlock the translated name field, or help me add the translated title "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (SE)".
I don't know if (SE) should really be part of the title, but since this is the Swedish version of the original US show, it would help to differentiate the shows.
Thanks!

Hi again,
Just noticed I did enter this translated title the day before raising this ticket, but that the title was deleted by a mod by looking at the edit history.
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/78266-smartare-an-en-femteklassare/changes
If the field "Translated Name (English)" is not for translating the original titles into English, how should this field be used?
Thanks!

Hi, the title must be officially in use for it to be added as an official translated title. Should that not be the case, adding it as an alternative title would probably be the best option.

Ah, OK, I guess that makes sense, however "Translated Name" is a bit confusing then, I think -- since that implies that the title is actually a translation (which could be done by anyone really) and not actually the official English title.
I thought the field was for non-English movies/TV to be more easily read on the site by English-only speakers, since our Swedish hurdy-gurdy titles probably makes no sense to anyone browsing the site (without having to dig down into the AKAs subpage for each title.)
Not a big deal maybe, but renaming the field to just "English Name" (or adding a ?-bubble explaining how to use it) would probably be a good idea, so that others no not waste their time going around translating titles thinking they are adding to the database instead of "ruining" it ;)
Either way, thanks for the info!

There are a lot of subtleties when it comes to the translated title field See the relevant section in the contribution bible here. Adding that link to a ?-bubble would actually be very nice, but maybe it would scare away some contributors as well.![smile_cat](/assets/emojis/v8/1f638.svg)

Hehe, maybe, but better to scare them away than to trick them into contributing and then just throwing their edits into the trash
Either way, two paragraphs of that page that would be very suited for a ?-bubble for that field are these:
It would at least have helped me to know that the title had to be officially in use, and not just something for any user to translate the title into![smiley](/assets/emojis/v8/1f603.svg)
IMHO, more fields should have a ?-bubble reminding all users how to use them, and most fields can be explained in two short sentences without having to scare anyone away with the whole contribution bible, and even a semi-seasoned editor as myself obviously didn't think to look it up before raising a ticket![laughing](/assets/emojis/v8/1f606.svg)
In my defense, I was looking how it was used on other titles and went with how other used did it instead of looking it up
But that at least proves my point regarding the ?-bubbles.
Sorry for going on and on about this small issue, have a great week now -- you're awesome!![kissing_closed_eyes](/assets/emojis/v8/1f61a.svg)
